The Amazon provides us with food like chocolate and coffee and also freshwater from the Amazon basin. It creates jobs for harvesting and transportation. The forests provide us with medicine (more than 2/3 of cancer fighting medicines are found in the Amazon). It is also largest land-based carbon sink on the planet. 20% of the Amazon has already been cut down to create ranches croplands and roads. It loses forest area the size of Haiti each year an is expected to double by the next decade.

This forest is home to 2,200 species of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. It contains 60% of Brazil's threatened species. It is also home to 20,000 species of plants, 8% of the Earth's plants. Before, this forest was twice the size of Texas, but as of now 85% of this forest is gone and still only 2% of this landmass is protected.
